Screening of The Green Book: Guide to Freedom

The Bayou Teche Museum, The Iberia African American Historical Society, and the Shadows-on-the-Teche are partnering to present a series of programming related to the history of The Negro Motorist Green Book.

We invite you to a screening of The Green Book: Guide to Freedom, the Smithsonian Channel documentary at the Sliman Theatre. The documentary explores The Negro Motorist Green Book, some of the segregated nation's safe havens and notorious "sundown towns", and stories of struggle and indignity as well as opportunity and triumph. A moderated panel discussion will follow and feature background on some of New Iberia's actual Green Book sites. The documentary is rated PG.

This program was designed to coincide with the anniversary of the March on Washington and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s I Have a Dream speech. It is part of a statewide viewing initiated by the Louisiana State Museums and the Capitol Park Museum.

The screening is FREE to attend, but we do ask that you register in advance in order to receive the Zoom link. You can register here.
